What this website knows about you

Almost nothing. These are simply pages of words and photographs, and the site shows them to you and asks nothing in return. It does not want your name, it does not know who you are, and it does not follow you from page to page or on to anywhere else.

The lettering, the photographs and the small movements you see as you scroll are all kept here, on this website, rather than borrowed from other companies. That matters more than it sounds: on most websites, those borrowed pieces quietly tell the companies that supply them that you called by. Nothing here does that.

While you are reading, your browser keeps one small note to itself, so that the opening animation does not play all over again each time you turn to another page. It is not a cookie, it says nothing whatever about you, and your browser throws it away the moment you close the tab.

The one thing that is written down

Every website in the world lives on a computer somewhere, and ours is looked after by Google. That computer keeps an ordinary record of the requests it receives, which includes the address on the internet that each visit came from. Think of it as a doorman’s logbook: it exists so that the site keeps working and so that it can be defended if somebody attacks it. We do not read it, and we do not use it to work out who anybody is.

If you write to us

There is no form on this site. If you would like to stay, you telephone or email in the ordinary way, using the number and the address printed on these pages. Your message travels straight to the estate; it does not pass through this website at all.

Whatever you choose to tell us, your name, the dates you have in mind, how many of you there are, is used for one purpose only: to reply to you, and to arrange your stay if you decide to come. We do not sell it, we do not pass it to anyone else to advertise to you, and we do not put you on any mailing list. If you would rather we forgot the whole exchange, say so and we will.

If any of this changes

If we ever add something that changes the picture, a booking form, say, or a way of counting visitors, we will rewrite this page and change the date at the foot of it before we do.
