The Attic Year
The classic Mediterranean year, read from a cliff fifty metres (about 165 feet) above the water.
Schinias keeps the classic Mediterranean calendar, and reads every month of it against the sea, hot, dry summers softened by the coastal breeze, mild and quiet winters, and a swimming season that runs roughly from May to October.

Spring
May
The swimming season opens
The days lengthen and warm until, around May, the sea is ready for its first swims. With the heat still to come, these are ideal months for the archaeology and hiking of the Marathon countryside.
Summer
31–33 °C
July & August, by day
Hot and dry, in the Attic way, yet tempered on this coast by the summer sea breeze, the same wind that makes Schinias a windsurfing favourite. By August the sea reaches its warmest, around 25–26 °C.
Autumn
October
The last swims
The sea keeps its summer warmth long after the crowds have gone, swimming runs to around October, and the cool, clear days are spring's equal for walking and archaeology.

When to Come
The estate keeps two calendars, the water's and the hearth's.
Much of this coast closes with the summer. Built of stone, heated throughout and with a fireplace in the North Wing, the estate doesn't have to, choose your season by what you want the days to hold.
The pool season, May to October
Swimming from around May to the end of October, the covered veranda holding its shade, the BBQ lit by noon, and the summer breeze keeping the cliff-top fresh through the hottest afternoons.
The walking season, spring & autumn
The gentle months, ideal for the archaeology and hiking of the Marathon country, with the pool courtyard in full sun and, in autumn, a sea still warm from August.
The fireside season, November to March
A mild Greek winter, around 13 °C by day in January. The North Wing hearth burning, central heating in every room of all three houses, and the bay at its quietest.
